Film in Focus: a top new site for cinephiles
posted @1:14 p.m. by Richard Kelly
I am proud to say that I use and endorse Film in Focus, an excellent new film site surveying the contemporary movie scene as well as key aspects of film history. It has arisen as a joint venture between Focus Features, Filmmaker magazine, and Faber and Faber film publishing. Faber has its own dedicated page within the site, on which I have an editorial role, so for the boon let me point your browsers to this piece about Ian McEwan novels as they've been adapted for cinema. Might give y'all an idea for, say, a top-ten list. Speaking of which, some anorak-obsessive has also done a top 5 of sadly-neglected 'masterworks'...

Charlton Heston 1924-2008
posted @3:08 p.m. by Richard Kelly
"Left eye, right eye, take a look around", sang the late Warren Zevon. "Everybody's headed for a hole in the ground." On that note this site seems to becoming a bit of a blogging burial space since updates are occasioned mainly by fatalities at the moment. Charlton Heston was lucky his wealth protected him from meeting his maker via some trigger-happy loon packing heat in the manner that Heston considered an inviolable American right. A friend just gave me various ideas for Heston-inspired Tens but unfortunately I can't quite be doing with any of them. Confession: I couldn't get through most of his movies, the epics were just too damn long. By far my favourite of his movies and performances is Peckinpah's Major Dundee. To wit, the above. So long, Chuck.

It Lives...! Again...!
posted @3:12 p.m. by Richard Kelly
This site, that is. I'm just setting down a marker, see, but for any readers in the London area passing through, be assured that Ten Bad Dates is poised to ride again, firstly in the coming months as a semi-regular film quiz night in a top London venue. Then there are also plans afoot to translate it into TV form... And so with a bit more time on my hands now after the publication of my novel Crusaders I hope to start updating regularly here again soon. Meantime, house rules still apply here - any lists you fancy submitting by way of the template in the 'WHAT'S YOUR TEN...?' link in the left-hand margin will be happily received and swiftly put up onto this site, and all other comments and feedback are welcome. I'll be back soon, as Ethan Edwards quite rightly never said...

Quiet week, last week, eh?
posted @11:15 p.m. by Richard Kelly
It was for some. Not for me, or Kevin Keegan. But in the next day or so I will be posting some of the best winning entries from the Bond competition. Prepare to be stirred.
